Greetings from the Honorable
Austin J. Badon, Jr.
State Representative - District 100

Wow! I can hardly believe that we are rapidly approaching the end of 2004. As your State Representative, I am pleased with the improvements that we have made in such a short period of time. This year has brought about a tremendous change in attitude towards the betterment of our community. I can attest that we live in a beautiful section of the city and we have wonderful neighbors throughout all the neighborhoods of Eastern New Orleans. We are blessed to have dedicated police officers within the Seventh District who perform their duties courageously despite significant odds. And with the State Police patrolling our interstate, thus relieving our New Orleans Police Officers to patrol our neighborhoods, we should feel a little safer. However, regardless as to how many safety or security measures are put in place, the criminal element still exists and we each must be diligent. I encourage everyone to get involved with your homeowners associations and to form neighborhood watch programs. If you have a security system, please use it. If you don’t have one, please invest in one. Working together, we can deter crime in our neighborhoods. Your elected officials are working together as a team and the services that we desire are coming to our community. We recently welcomed two new restaurants in Sassafras and Lamars, and we are working with others to follow. Lincoln Beach is currently under renovation and Six Flags is exploring the concept of developing a water-park. Here’s a recap of some of our successes so far in 2004:
- Established a partnership with the Orleans Parish
Criminal Sheriff’s office to clean the fence-line on 1-10
- Had three quality bills signed into law
- Worked with the local hotel industry to reduce rates
for hurricane evacuees
- Established the service to give away free gunlocks
- held a drive to get perishables and sundries for our
troops in Afghanistan and Iraq
- Established a relationship with the State Police to patrol
in New Orleans East
- Kept my promise to hold quarterly Town Hall meetings so
that my constituents can voice their opinions
- I have lobbied and received $50,000 through the house
Appropriations Committee to be used to enhance computer
technology in our six district schools
- I have been able to get so many blighted lots, abandoned
cars and pothole problems rectified.
I encourage all parents and community persons to please get involved in the education of our children and to assist the dedicated principals and staff members in making a positive difference in educating our children. Remember that it takes a whole village to raise a child! We live in a beautiful community and I’m working hard to make it better for all of us, but I can’t do it alone.
Best wishes,
Your State Representative,
Austin J. Badon, Jr.
