News & Developments
Below is a listing of some of the successes for our district since
State Representative Austin Badon started serving our community in

- Representative Badon chosen as the 2007 Legislator of the Year
by the Alliance for Good Government.
Legislative Update:
- Representative Badon had the large mast lights fixed at the
intersection of I-10 and Paris Road
- Representative Austin Badon Jr. and other members of the Orleans
delegation brought home over $2.5 billion dollars in projects and
infrastructure improvements from the 2007 Legislative Session.
- In four years, our Representative Badon has perfect attendance at
every Regular and Special session since being inducted in 2004.
- Our Representative authored and passed the Constitutional Amendment,
his first,to consolidate the seven Orleans assessor offices into
one office beginning in 2010, thus saving New Orleans millions of
dollars in wasted revenue.
- Our Representative has been at the forefront with demanding the
Louisiana Department of Transportation to fulfill all of their
responsibilities to New Orleans.
- Our Representative had the Department of Transportation to clean up
the drainage ditch at I-10 eastbound between Dwyer and Morisson, to
fix the signage at Bullard, to remove unsightly foliage between
Chef Menteur and Dwyer and to have the guardrails fixed at the top
of the Highrise.
- Our Representative had the signal light fixed at Bullard and the
I-10 service road.
- Our Representative organized and conducted a New Orleans East
clean-up of the illegal signage posted at intersections.
- Our Representative has been at the forefront of demanding that the
Almonaster/ Michoud illegal dumpsites be cleaned-up.
- Representative Badon has requested that the Federal Government
install fencing along I-10 within the Bayou Savauge Wildlife Refuge.
- Representative Badon has given out thousands of Green Ash trees to
New Orleans East residents.
- Representative Badon has had the pothole fixed at Read and Andover.
- Our Representative has been a strong supporter of the redevelopment
of the Plaza Shopping Center.
- Our Representative has been actively involved with the New Orleans
Hornets to bring a new gymnasium to Sarah Reed High School.
- Our Representative has been the driving force behind construction
of a Fountain to be located at Read and Lake Forest Blvd.
- Again, Representative Badon has led the way to put more State
Police on Eastern New Orleans highways.
- Representative Badon has also worked to have the Orleans Levee
Police work to make safer our Eastern New Orleans neighborhoods.
- Representative Badon has been very adamant about getting Joe Brown
Park repaired and open.
- Representative Badon has had numerous houses gutted, debris
removed, street lights fixed, road signs repaired and damaged
cars removed.
- Motorist Assistance Program -
State Representative Austin Badon worked to secure
a state contract for the Department of Transportation
and Development's Motorist Assistance Program. The
program will help by providing gas, changing flat
tires, filling radiators, or providing the use of a
cellular phone for stranded motorists on I-10
between Bullard Avenue and the Superdome exit.
- Representative Badon would like to thank Levee Board
Police Chief Richard Lewis and his officers for granting
our Representative’s request that they patrol the Lake
Forest Plaza during the 2004 Christmas season. “People
really felt a sense of security as they shopped in the
Plaza because of the presence of added officers from the
Levee Board Police Department”, Representative Badon said.
- Fulfilled Campaign Promise -
State Representative Austin Badon Jr. had a 100%
attendance record during the 2004 Legislative Session.
You can’t get any better than that! He was there every
day doing work for District 100, just like he said he would be.
- Representative Badon had the vacant lot at Curran
Blvd. between Sandy Cove and Sandpiper cleared and
cleaned, thus allowing the use of valuable right of
way in the street.
- Representative Badon had both sides of Morrison Road
between Read and Gannon re-striped and had new
high-resolution Two-Way Traffic Arrow signs installed.
- Representative Badon gave out dozens of eggs to needy
residents of Nazareth Inn and Forest Towers during the
Easter season of 2004.
- Representative Badon had a shelter placed above the
Bus Stop on Lake Forest Blvd. which is frequently used
by the residents of Forest Towers Senior Citizens
Apartment complex.
- Fulfilled Campaign Promise -
Our Representative pledged to maintain an open line of
communication and he has done just that. Representative
Badon has held quarterly townhall meetings and he has also
delivered on his promise to have quarterly newsletters
disseminated through the New Orleans East World Magazine.
- Free Gun Locks - Starting September 27, 2004,
State Representative Austin Badon, Jr. is giving away a total
of 300 gun locks to the public. The easy-to-install gun locks
could be used on many types of firearms, including revolvers,
semi-automatic handguns, shotguns, and rifles.
- Helping our Neighbors in Florida - Representative
Austin Badon and several members of the New Orleans East
hotel industry announced that New Orleans East hotel rooms
would be available to Florida residents at discounted rates
during hurricanes. Also, guests will be allowed to bring
their pets into the hotels.
- Fulfilled Campaign Promise -
Based upon his request, Representative Austin Badon has
received documentation that the Louisiana State Police and
the Department of Weights and Standards will conduct patrols
from the High-Rise to the I-10 Twin Spans.
- Representative Badon received approval from the RTA that
a shelter will be installed above the bus stand on Haynes,
which mostly serves the residents of Nazareth Inn.
- Representative Badon received authorization from the RTA,
that senior citizens may ride free of charge from Nazareth
Inn to the Intersection of Haynes and Paris, thus allowing
them to get out of the elements while awaiting bus service
towards Downman.
- Representative Austin Badon received word from Eastover
that the property on Bullard overlooking the golf course
will be beautified since he had the problem bus stop moved
to better serve the students of Fannie C. Williams Middle
School.
- Representative Austin Badon conducted the first quarterly
Town Hall meeting in February, 2004 at the Read Library and
scheduled the next quarterly Town Hall meeting -
July 10, 2004 at 6:30pm.
- Representative Badon requested that the Sewerage and Water
Board install barricades on their drainage canals to prevent
unauthorized entry to the criminal elements that have been
burglarizing homes and vehicles along these canals in the
Lake Bullard, Louis Prima and Lake Forest Estates subdivisions.
- Fulfilled Campaign Promise -
District 100 Representative Austin Badon established a
partnership with the Orleans Criminal Sheriff's Department to
beautify I-10. Based upon this partnership, the fence line
between the service road and I-10 from Read to Bullard on the
Plaza side has been cleared. Work has begun on the fence
line between Bullard and 5-10 in front of IHOP.
- Representative Badon scheduled a series of seminars to
address some of our community needs; for example, Domestic
Violence, How to Make your Home and Neighborhood Safe and
Youth Gang Violence and Parental Intervention.
- Representative Austin Badon introduced 7 bills to improve
the overall quality of life for citizens in New Orleans.
- Representative Badon helped to orchestrate a luncheon and
tour of the Sears building with the chancellors of Nunez and
Delgado community colleges and the vice chancellor of
technical colleges, with hopes of developing that property.
- Representative Badon had illegal cars removed from Bullard
and Fernley and had a car removed from the Morrisson Road Canal.
- Representative Badon had lots cleaned up on Bass and Curran
in Little Woods and on Curran and Reindeer.
